Imagine having to study all night for an exam, because as usual you were reduced to the last minute. The first thing you usually do is prepare a 8-person coffee maker for the night of study. That’s right, but it’s a risk that you will be presented with anxiety doubled. Fortunately, research has shown that chocolate can reduce the ansiogenic effects of coffee and instead increase the benefits of concentration.
The study was conducted by researcher Ali Boolani of Clarkson University along with a team of scholars from the University of Georgia. For a year, some volunteers took chocolate, coffee with chocolate, caffeine without cocoa and a placebo without caffeine or cocoa and answered some questions that were meant to assess their mood and concentration capacity. The result has shown that chocolate increases blood flow to brain areas that absorb caffeine better. It also reduces the ansiogenic effect of coffee. Perfect!

“It’s been a fun studio,” Boolian explained, “from which cocoa has been shown to increase blood flow to brain areas, thus increasing concentration and attention. Caffeine alone can cause anxiety, added to cocoa instead these effects will diminish. So here’s a good reason to drink mocha coffee!”
The research was sponsored by Hershey’s, the largest US company in chocolate production, which could launch products based on the two highly acclaimed ingredients.
