Do you want to work hard this year to study well, get better and work less at school? Here are some suggestions to find the right path and your own method of study!
How do you study well after a whole morning spent in class? Fatigue can be a lot, but doing the tasks that are assigned is an important part of your “work” as a student! Difficult to give general indications to suggest a method of study that is valid for everyone, but thanks to Dr. Serena Costa, Child Psychologist, we have compiled a list of tips that will be useful to try to find your method.
1. Studying is beautiful
“Studying methodically means having a coordinated set of strategies. But first of all it is necessary to have a positive idea of study: think about what you need to study, that is, to grow and improve. Understand what you like about the studio, how it can serve you. See it as a challenge to your abilities”.
2. Organize and establish priorities
“One of the most important things to do is undoubtedly organize your study: understand which tasks you can do faster and which require more time and make a roadmap that also takes into account your extracurricular commitments, such as the pool, friends, the walk with parents, reading a book of pleasure. With a good organization, you will also be able to anticipate some tasks and leave some free time during the weekend”.
3. Keep the diary and notes in order
“In order to be able to organize the tasks well you need to have a diary in which to pin all the things to do. Be careful in class when the teacher gives you the pages to study and the exercises to complete, so at home it will be really easier to start studying. Also, if you are messy in class, as soon as you are back, take the time to tidy up your notes and not leave sheets scattered inside your backpack!”

4. Find the right place
“Finding the right place to study will help you not to distract and concentrate. There are no precise rules, but it is preferable to think of a quiet, well-lit, comfortable and spacious place to arrange the books and other necessary tools”.
5. Establish when and how much to study
“Understand if it helps you take a break when you’re back from school or if you prefer to get straight to work on homework. In any case, when you feel tired and confused, pause your work and give yourself a snack, for example: it is useless to stay and read pages and pages without the right charge, you only risk losing time: find again the concentration!”.
6. Manage negative emotions
“Even managing negative emotions is part of the package to have a good study method. Do not be overwhelmed by a bad vote thinking that the study is useless: maybe just change something in your method, organize tasks better, and pay more attention in class. If you focus only on defeat it will be more difficult to succeed well next time”.
7. Underline, summarize and listen to the class
Emphasize with colors or highlighters the textbook to highlight the most important things, summarize the concepts to learn to have them always at hand, repeat aloud or a parent the lesson learned: there are many strategies that you can try to maximize your study. Try them and find what you like best, and have fun and help you better remember the things studied. If you have time and you are curious, for example, you can deepen and integrate the topics with a search in the library or on the computer. In any case, it is important to listen to the teachers in the class during the lesson: this will help you, giving you the opportunity to get home, having partly already learned the things to study”.
