Mini-Guide: School action against bullying

School action against bullying

The teachers we are in frontline combat bullying: get back to school and it has a dark side. Many programs have been launched in the US. We believe that the interest of each to schools is highest also in our country and regardless of the type of center we speak, and we want to bring here the keys to combat bullying raised in these strategies to create safe and inclusive climate:

1. Identification of intolerance and harassment problems

Often, bullying arises from beliefs and behaviors of intolerance, exclusion and hatred toward groups based on race, sex, sexual orientation, social class, religion or abilities.

  • What particular problem can detect?

Begin to identify discriminatory behavior is the first step: let’s scrupulous and detail, in order to move to the tutorial action and values education.

2. Solutions as defined by students

Students must be between them and them as equals is easier to negotiate and find solutions if we do as equals.

  • How to make our school more secure?
  • What problems of discrimination and exclusion detect as students?
  • What actions can we take to the bullying?

3. Collective voice

Race and gender and sexual identity are the most common reasons for bullying, but there are many other reasons (the companion “swot” overweight, the type of clothing and, of course, the neurodiversity). Once detected the causes and the tutorial action undertaken with all that it entails is necessary that the entire school community (To-Do) is one to say “NO”: talks, posters, awareness activities, contests stories … we can think what comes to mind, the awareness of our students to be truly authentic and profound

What to do? – 5 key steps

1. Detect, recognize and respond

Verbal harassment can manifest physically and in writing. You have to educate students, families and the entire staff of the school to take seriously such situations and draw up a plan of action.

We must also identify the places and times where it occurs: recess, the way there and back to the center, cafeteria…

2. Dialogue

It is necessary that the subject is visible: creating spaces for dialogue, it visible and talk about it.

Emotional Intelligence programs are effective and absolutely necessary within the tutorial. You can assess the viability of a forum against harassment.

3. Spectators must stop being

It is necessary to defend oneself, one and colleagues in bullying situation: To do this, we will have marked intervention protocols and dialogue. We will practice with games and help young people develop assertiveness and be critical of the models imposed by the mass media.

4. Security and inclusion

Feeling in a safe environment in which each person itself is essential for people who suffer harassment can defend themselves and ask for help when needed is valued: it is vital to build a climate of trust, listen and pay attention to every student.

5. Education, always in community

Amps and families should work with the center to carry out joint actions of awareness and action, as far as possible. It is also possible to organize events and campaigns more successful if, from the center, we have the cooperation of each of the families.
